I recently upgraded my streaming device from ROKU’s model 1 to their model 3 and was disappointed to find that the latter has only one HDMI connection for connecting to a family entertainment center, plus a USB connection for computers. My old Roku 1 had a variety of connections for those with TV’s, DVD players, or amplifier/receivers that don’t have HDMI inputs. Not everyone rushes to out to replace all their audio/visual equipment with the latest technology for the sake of doing so! Adding one or two of the following connections: component video, S-video, digital audio (optical), or even L&R analog audio would have increased Roku’s costs by only a modest amount, and would have greatly increased customer utility.
Companies sometimes need to think beyond their bottom line to retain customer loyalty.
